Remote IT Internships in Australia

Build evidence of your skills without leaving home.

A Logitrain internship is an unpaid educational internship you complete remotely, from anywhere in Australia. It runs after your training as part of Job Ready Program 2 and Job Ready Program 3, and it exists for one reason, which is to give you somewhere to apply what you have just learnt and something concrete to show for it.

What a Logitrain IT internship involves

The internship is unpaid and its purpose is learning and skill development. You work through practical exercises, simulated workplace scenarios and case studies, which depending on your field means simulated projects or simulated support tickets based on fictional businesses. Everything you work on is simulated. None of it is real client work.

Participants are not employees of Logitrain. You do not perform productive work and you do not contribute to Logitrain’s business operations. Anything you create is used only for your own learning and assessment, and you are welcome to keep it for your portfolio. The internship does not lead to employment with Logitrain.

How the remote internship works

You complete the internship in your own space and at your own pace. There is no requirement to attend a training centre, and no set hours to sit at a desk, so you can keep your current job or your studies going while you work through it. Tasks are released to you, and you submit your work back within the timeframe set for each one. A Logitrain trainer reviews what you send and gives you feedback on it.

Because it is remote, where you live makes no difference. Participants complete it from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart, regional areas and anywhere else in the country with a reliable internet connection.

What you work on in each field

The tasks are built around the work an entry-level person in that field would recognise, using fictional organisations.

In IT support you work through a bank of simulated support tickets, deciding what to ask, what to check and how to write up what you did. In networking you diagnose simulated faults, plan addressing for a new site and document a change so someone else could carry it out. In cyber security you triage simulated alerts, investigate a reported phishing email and write a short advisory a non-technical manager could act on. In cloud computing you work through simulated service requests and build out an environment to a brief. In software testing you write test cases, log defects against a specification and report on what you found.

In data analysis you clean a messy extract, write queries to answer a question a manager has asked and build a dashboard from the result. In web development you build pages from a design, set up a site and fix what breaks on a phone. In database work you design a schema, write queries against it and work through backup and recovery scenarios. In business analysis and project management you gather requirements from a scenario, write them up and produce the planning documents a project would need.

IT courses with an internship included

The internship is not sold on its own. It is included in Job Ready Program 2 and Job Ready Program 3 in every field, so you take the training courses and certification preparation first and the internship follows on from them. Program 2 includes a one-month internship and Program 3 includes two months. You can see which courses sit in each program, and what else each level includes, on your field’s Job Ready Program page.

Your internship completion certificate

When you complete all of the tasks set during your internship, you receive a certificate confirming the length of the internship you completed. Job Ready Program 3 also includes internship references by email and phone, which are set out in full on the program pages.

Who the internship suits

It suits recent graduates who have the theory and want somewhere to apply it, people changing careers who need to show they can do the work rather than just describe it, people returning to the workforce after time away, and people who have recently arrived in Australia and are building a body of work an Australian employer can look at.

You do not need previous industry experience to take part. You do need to have completed the training in your program first, because the tasks assume the skills those courses teach.

Does the internship lead to a job?

No, and we will not tell you otherwise. The internship does not lead to employment with Logitrain, it does not guarantee interviews and it does not guarantee employment anywhere. What it gives you is a set of completed work you can talk through in an interview, a portfolio you can link from your resume and a certificate confirming what you completed. Those things help. They are not a promise.

Internship questions we are asked most

Is the internship paid?

No. It is an unpaid educational internship, and it is designed and run as one. Its purpose is your learning and skill development, and participants do not perform productive work for Logitrain.

Can I do it online, or do I need to attend a centre?

It is entirely remote. You complete it online from wherever you are.

How long does it run?

One month in Job Ready Program 2 and two months in Job Ready Program 3. The internship starts after your training finishes.

Can I do it part time or around my job?

Yes. There are no fixed attendance hours. You work through the tasks in your own time and submit them within the timeframe set for each one.

Can I join the internship on its own?

No. It is a component of Job Ready Programs 2 and 3 rather than a separate product, because the tasks are built on the courses that come before them.

Which fields can I do the internship in?

Every field we run a Job Ready Program in, which includes IT support, networking, cyber security, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, data analysis, software testing, web development, databases, business analysis and project management.

Do I keep the work I produce?

Yes. It is yours, and you are encouraged to use it in a portfolio.

Am I eligible?

Anyone enrolled in Job Ready Program 2 or Job Ready Program 3 completes the internship as part of the program. Enrolment conditions, including any visa and right to work requirements, are set out in our terms and conditions.

Ready to start?

Choose the field you want to work in, then compare Job Ready Program 2 and Job Ready Program 3 to see how much internship time each one includes. Have a look at the Job Ready Programs, or fill in the form and our team will talk you through which level fits your background.

The supply of this course/package/program is governed by our terms and conditions. Please read them carefully before enrolling, as enrolment is conditional on acceptance of these terms and conditions. Proposed course dates are given, course runs subject to availability and minimum registrations.
