Top 7 Ways to Improve Your Resume For Dream Job

Improve Your Resume For Dream Job
  1. Initial part of the resume should be the focus

First third part of the resume is critical in terms of making a good impression. Hiring managers are known to only spend a few seconds reviewing each resume during the first screening process and that is the reason the first few sections need to represent your suitability to the advertised position. Candidates are also more likely to be asked more questions based on initial few sections from their resume.

  1. Objective statement.

Objective statements are outdated and not necessary in recent times. Instead of writing objectives, one should write a concise summary of their career and professional life.

  1. Be specific about statistics in your resume

Numbers and percentages in your resume provide interviewers with the scope of your responsibility, as well as idea about your accomplishments. However, one should be careful not to overuse statistics and reserve it to highlight the difference you made to your previous organisation.

  1. Include most relevant information at the top of the resume

Order in which the resume presented is critical and should start with the most relevant information. Resume should be tailored to each job application and the relevant information may change accordingly. Your most relevant job should be listed first to grab reader’s attention. Same logic should be used for your education and certifications if the job specifically enlists the formal qualifications and certifications required for the job.

  1. Ensure you mention accomplishments throughout resume.

While it is important to include roles, tasks and responsibilities on the resume, specific emphasis should be made on mentioning accomplishments. Most job descriptions should give the applicant a good idea about what skills are required. It is then important to highlight those specific skills and show your ability through your accomplishments. Accomplishments should be included throughout the resume highlighting the relevant skills and strengths that enabled you to achieve them.

  1. Use clear formatting

Formatting of your resume is a very critical part of the application process as it may be a deciding factor between how carefully the resume is read.  Clear formatting, readable font and font sizes make the resume easy to read and improves your chances of careful consideration.

  1. References

References section should not be left empty. Make sure to always obtain consent before putting any references on your resume. Most appropriate resume references are your current and last line managers.
