The certifications were divided into three levels as Foundation, Practitioner and Professional.
Foundation: The foundation certificate is for any team member working on a project using PRINCE2® methods. It is aimed at Project managers who want to use the PRINCE2® practices in their project. This explains the concepts that can be used in a project for effective usage. It does not require any pre-requisites and is a closed book exam. It has 75 questions but only 70 are counted for the examination and you need only 35 marks to pass the exam. We are expected to complete it in an hour.
Practitioner: This is targeted for people who have experience working in PRINCE2® as it mostly based on implementing the concepts in a practical scenario. When a candidate achieves this certificate means that he can implement the PRINCE2® methodologies in his work. It depends on the project he is working on and the PRINCE2® methodologies used in the project.
There are few exams that need to be cleared before giving the practitioner exam. Any one of the following exams act as the pre-requisites:
- PRINCE2® Foundation
- Project Management Professional
- Certified Associate in Project Management
- Certified Projects Director
- Certified Senior Project Manager
- Certified Project Manager
- Certified Project Management Associate
It is an open book exam and 55% is the pass percentage and it is two and a half hour exam where 80 questions are available.
Professional: Once you clear this exam it helps you in implementing the principles in the overall project lifecycle and it is purely based on assessment of group activities and exercises. There is no written examination for this.
PRINCE2® Agile Examination: This examination is targeted for any team member who is working on agile projects and for project managers who can implement their learning in an agile environment. The above-mentioned pre-requisites for the Practitioner exam are the pre-requisites for this exam too apart from clearing the PRINCE2® Practitioner exam. It is an open book exam with total duration of two and a half hours. To clear the exam we need to get 30 questions correct out of the 50 questions.
These certifications currently available for aspiring project managers and others wish to gain knowledge about the PRINCE2® methodologies. This certificate is considered in very high regard and nowadays this certification is considered as a mandatory one for project managers. Companies encourage their project managers and business analysts in team to take up the exam and even recruiting companies look out for these certifications as criteria in their hiring process.
