International Software Testing Qualification Board (ISTQB) is the leading software testing certification board in the world that certifies software quality analysts and validates their skills. The certification board uses a common language training scheme to ensure that the candidates follow the curriculum and learn the same skills and best practices.
The ISTQB certification program has four levels that are Foundation, Agile Tester, Advanced, and Expert. More details about them are discussed below.
- ISTQB Foundation Certification: This certification is an entry-level certification that covers the basic concepts of software testing. The course starts with understanding the basics of testing and why it is required. It also covers the implementation of testing at various stages of the software development lifecycle including different test methodologies. Knowing the test management principles and strategy you can get the testing activities and the final software according to your desired functionality and goal. The ideal candidates for this foundation training can be project managers, software development managers, business analysts, and other leaders.
- ISTQB Agile Tester Certification: This certification provides the software testers the ability to change their approach towards the need for constant iteration and identify the risks within the product developed during the agile process. Software quality analysts who have completed this certification can support their team members in a better way during the planning and designing defect testing in an agile environment.
- ISTQB Advanced Certification: A person as a test manager or test analyst is better suited for this advanced level certification. This certification got three modules of certification that are Advanced Test Manager, Advanced Test analyst, and Advanced Technical Test Analyst. One can only achieve the Advanced certification if he has cleared the three modules for which ISTQB has set its own curriculum and tests separately. After completion of full Advanced certification skills such as risk assessment, test execution, documentation, and many others improve rigorously.
- ISTQB Expert Certification: This certification is largely based on the business outcomes for the employer of the tester. Professionals who have experience in software quality assurance can enhance their expertise in areas like automation, security, or other software testing activities. For qualifying for giving this certification exam one needs to have at least five years of experience in the industry and two years of experience in your area of interest expert certification. Those seeking the Expert certification must also need to complete the Foundation level certification along with one or more Advanced level certification based on their skill set and depending on what they want to learn from this course.
