Important Key Features of Windows Server 2012

Windows Server 2012

Windows Server 2012 is 5th fifth version of the Windows Server OS by Microsoft. Various features were added to Windows Server 2012 such as cloud computing, an updated version of Hyper-V, an IP address management role, a new version of Windows Task Manager, and ReFS, a new file system.

Hyper-V Replica: Hyper-V Replica is a storage technology designed to continuously replicate virtual machines to a backup cluster. It ensures that snapshots should not be more than 15 minutes old of critical virtual machines that are available over any network. It replicates full snapshot initially and after that it sends change blocks only.

Deduplication: Deduplication is absolute must in recent years and Microsoft has taken notice into it. Server 2012 supports deduplication on NTFS volumes though tragically it does not work with CSV and deeply integrates it with BranchCache to avoid wasting on WAN bandwidth.

Cluster Shared Volumes: Server 2012 Cluster Shared Volumes are officially supported for use beyond hosting virtual hard disks for Hyper-V. You may now roll your own highly available multi-node replicated storage cluster and do so with a correct fistful of best-practice documentation.

PowerShell: PowerShell 3.0 is an evolution. Every element of the operating system and virtually every other server, such as SQL, Exchange, or Lync, are fully manageable from PowerShell.

DirectAccess: Server 2012 makes it easier to use, with SSL as the default configuration and IPsec as an option. The rigid dependence on IPv6 has also been removed. DirectAccess has evolved into a reasonable and easy-to-use, is preferable for undertaking a wide range of tasks.

Server Manager: One of the noticeable features is new server manager has multi-server capability, which makes it easier to deploy features and roles remotely to virtual as well as physical servers and several servers can be managed.

Freedom to Choose the Interface: In the past, if you installed server core, you were stranded in a dark place where only the command line acted as your interface. However, the advent of Windows 8 has changed that as now users have choices. MS realized that both command line, as well as Graphical User Interface (GUI

Live Migration Storage: Capability to move CM storage of the system while the VM is still running. It is easy to move virtual hard disks to different locations while the VM is still running. So, even if the files are being moved to different locations VM does not need to go offline.
