Easiest Way For Troubleshooting Email Issues

Email Issues

There are over 4 billion email users worldwide. In 2020, the number of email users reached the 4 billion mark, which means that over 50% of the world’s population was using email. The latest reported number in 2021 exceeds 4.1 billion.

There are so many reasons why you may not be able to send or receive emails. This could be due to firewalls, blacklists, server settings, network issues, software misconfiguration, or simply just a small typo. As there are a variety of different reasons as to why our email won’t work you can never just guess which is the reason for us, hence why you start from the easiest troubleshooting steps first and go from there, as you want to make it as less time-consuming as possible. In saying that, Let’s have a look at some ways on how to troubleshoot these certain issues.

First and fore most you should check that you are successfully connected to an internet connection as this will always affect whether you can send or receive an email.

If you haven’t received an email it could be getting flagged as spam or blocked due to a firewall is a very common issue today as there are so many free third-party services being used, hence why you should check the spam bin. This means that you have actually received the email, however, it’s not showing up in your inbox. If you spot an email in your spam bin when it shouldn’t be spam, you can go into your settings and add the email address into your allow list so the issue doesn’t occur again, and from now on the emails received from the specific email address go straight into your inbox.

You should always be checking your spelling. Just 1 small typo in the email can change everything so it is important to triple check the spelling of the ‘To’ email address when sending an email. It is ok if you make a typo to an email address that doesn’t exist as the email won’t be sent to anyone at all, and you can just resend it by fixing the typo, however, the worst-case scenario would be your type ending up being a legitimate email address and you have just sent confidential documents to a random user. Always check your spelling!!

If you are still having trouble, you should then check the email client being used. Just take a quick look yourself or do a quick google search to see if it is working as normal or if there are any errors or known bugs occurring. If you see something happening with the client that you don’t usually see then there maybe be an issue. If that is the case, use a different client to see if the issue is still occurring and you still cannot send or receive emails.

If you are using a content management system such as WordPress, you may have to check your plugins. When using plugins, emails may be sent while registering, using shopping carts, contact forms, etc. If you are not receiving these emails then you can do the troubleshooting steps yourself or contact the plugin developers for assistance. If you want to troubleshoot yourself take a look at your plugin settings, typos, site errors, security plugins, and caching plugins. However, keep in mind although you aren’t receiving emails there could be an issue somewhere else preventing it from happening, not the plugin itself!

Finally, there may also be an issue with the server that is preventing you to send and recieve emails, as servers usually use their own firewall or anti-spam rules. The easiest way to troubleshoot and rule out a potential server issue is by attempting to send an email from a different site on the same server or attempting to send an email using a different plugin on the same site.
