Cisco 800 series routers are a series of integrated service routers that provide Internet, VPN, voice, data, and backup capabilities to low volume of corporate teleworkers and remote and small office users of fewer than 20. Their main features are the capability of bridging and multiprotocol routing between LAN and WAN ports, and antivirus protection which is an advanced feature. They also provide machine to machine connectivity.
Cisco 800 series consists of the following routers. Cisco 860 series, 880 series, 890 series and the 810 series.
Features of Cisco 860 series
These routers provide either a 10/100 Fast Ethernet or an ADSL2 over POTs WAN connection. Cisco 860 routers are fixed configuration data routers. They also support 4 port 10/100 FE LAN switch of Cisco 860 series ISRs, provide IPsec & firewall security features, optionally provides 802.11n wireless LAN.
Cisco routers 860 series also comes with a variation, namely the Cisco 860VAE. This series has many notable features such as increased performance, security and QoS with secure routers, state-of-the-art xDSL features, ScanSafe web filtering IPV6 support, real-time clock etc.
Features of Cisco 880 series
These are a family of fixed configuration data and voice routers. Each router has one WAN port and supports either Foreign Exchange Station or BRI voice ports Most routers comes with a data or voice backup ports. A commercial third generation wireless interface card that provides cellular backups.
Main features of Cisco 880 series are that it has a 4 port 10/100 FE LAN switch that provides four ports for connecting to 10/100 BASE-T FE LANs, access points or IP phones with some upgrades also available. Another feature is the 802.11n wireless LAN option with which the router can act as an access point in the local infrastructure. The router also comes with a real-time clock which provides date and time when the system is powered on. Apart from the above mentioned features the router has some of the security features such as Intrusion prevention system, dynamic multipoint VPN, IPSec, Quality of service, firewall and URL filtering and voice features as well.
Features of Cisco 890 series
Cisco 890 series routers are also fixed configuration data routers. These are equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port and data backup ports.
Cisco 890 series routers comes with 8 port 10/100 FE LAN switch that has eight ports for connecting to 10/100BASE-T FE LANs, access points, or IP phones. Some upgrade features are also available. It also comes with an optional 802.11n Wireless LAN module which allows wireless LAN connectivity, and the router can act as an access point in the local infrastructure. Features of Cisco 810 series
