Briefly Explain The Microsoft Powerpoint

Microsoft Powerpoint

According to the latest research conducted in 2020, Microsoft Powerpoint is used by approximately 500 million people worldwide and over 35 million PowerPoint presentations are given each day.

Let’s put that into perspective. Australia has a population of around 25 million and around 500 million use Powerpoint. That is equivalent to 20 Australias!

What is Microsoft Powerpoint? Powerpoint was released in 1987 and is a powerful presentation program where a user can gather a collection of slides for a presentation. It is part of Microsoft Office which also includes Word, Excel, etc.

So, Why is Microsoft Powerpoint so popular and important for individuals and organisations?

Firstly, If you don’t have a license to use Office and you don’t want to use the free trials, Powerpoint is completely free via a web browser! Instead of downloading it onto your PC, You can access it online. Just head to office.com and register a free Microsoft account. This is also available for Mac users.

One of the main reasons why Powerpoint is so important is it gives users an option for quick and easy collaboration. This option is ideal for organisations and university assignments that require multiple users to work on a presentation simultaneously. To access the collaborate option, click on ‘Share’ on the top right corner, Ensure your Powerpoint is saved to OneDrive or SharePoint. A ‘Send Link’ popup will appear where you will need to type in the person’s contact details that you want to collaborate with. Then simply click on the ‘Share’ button and an invite will be sent out automatically. During the collaboration, you will be able to see who is working on what slide and you also have the ability to chat directly or leave notes on slides. When you and your partners are done with your parts, you will need to save the file to view the merged product. The work will get merged automatically as long as there are no merge conflicts.

Powerpoint allows the use of visuals in presentations which include images, videos, charts, and even audio. The use of multimedia in presentations increases the audience’s focus. 100% of people think a slide should include visuals. Not only is Powerpoint popular because of its use of visuals, but also for its flexibility. Slides can be customised in a variety of different ways depending on how you want to get your point across. Do you need more text, more images, more charts, a combination of all? It’s all in your hands!

Adding to that, you can play around and merge different background designs until you have finally created the perfect presentation. If you are lazy and don’t want to create your own, well Powerpoint also provides free professional templates.

Powerpoint also provides an option to easily convert a .ppt file to another format. Whether you want a .doc file, a .pdf file, or even want to convert a certain slide into .jpg or .png format. It’s possible!

Finally, many users may not know this however Microsoft Powerpoint updates automatically. As long as your device is connected to the internet and you have ‘Automatic updates’ enabled, you will get the latest features without having to move a muscle!

To conclude, as I have used Powerpoint since a young age I may be a little biased, however, I would highly recommend it for ANYONE that needs to create an eye-catching presentation. It is easy to use, even if you don’t have a background in IT. In saying that, although I have been using Powerpoint for a very long time, and I still learn new tips and tricks every hour and then.
