ITIL is one of the most widely recognised certification across the globe. Most of organization implement these concepts in businesses.
In the following section, we will discuss the levels of certifications ITIL offers.
Foundation – As the name itself explains, it’s for the entry-level qualification and provides knowledge on the basics of ITIL. This is ideal for the entry-level candidates and who is already part of the organization where the ITIL standards are in place. This is the first step for the beginners.
Practitioner – This certification course will provide practical knowledge on how the ITIL standards or concepts applied in the real time world. Foundation will give you an understanding on the concepts and this course will provide knowledge on how its applied. It mainly concentrates on the change management processes, communication during the incident management, measurement, and metrics. It also encapsulates with the methodologies from the other frameworks to bring a new vision to the concepts.
Intermediate – This certification offers two modules. One is the Service Lifecycle Stream and the other one is Service Capability Stream. These modules can appear separately or at the same time.
Here we should have some understanding of the credits that through ITIL exams one can obtain and its required to progress on next level of exams.
To reach the Expert level, its required to have credit of 17. Foundation course will gain 2 credits and clearing this certificate in total obtains 22 credits.
Expert – This certification is completely driven by the credits and modules that are completed in ITIL. If a candidate has earned sufficient credits and all the ITIL modules are successfully completed, the candidate will be awarded with the ITIL Expert certificate. So, to reach this level, it’s important to clear the above-listed exams.
Master – This is the advanced level of certification one can achieve if the candidate appearing in the exam have worked in IT service management for at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial or higher management advisory level role. The candidate should have extensive hands-on experience to pass this exam.
This certification is not like the other exams. This is process-oriented and involves multiple steps to clear the exam. Firstly, candidate is required to apply, once the application is accepted, as a second step, a proposal is submitted. If both the steps are successful, need to submit a work package. As a final step, the candidate needs to appear for an interview with a panel of assessors and if every step is successful, the candidate will be granted an ITIL Master certification.
